This monument, created by Romualdas Kvintas, is dedicated to Doctor Tsemakh Shabad (1864–1935) who once lived in Vilnius and was called Doctor Aiskauda (Dr. Doolittle).
The doctor paid special attention to children’s health problems; hence the image of him talking to a child.
He was the prototype of Doctor Aybolit, a good doctor from a poem for children by Korney Chukovsky.
He was also a social and political activist and the leader of the Vilnius branch of the Folkspartei, or Jewish People’s Party.
The statue is situated on Dysnos g. not far from the junction with Mesiniu g. and in the heart of what was once the jewish ghetto.
